
Beijing will host the 2015 world championships, the IAAF decided on Saturday to return to international athletics in the Bird's Nest stadium Usain Bolt became famous with its high speed of the 2008 Olympics.
The Chinese capital was the only bidder left after London on uncertainty about the future of the main Olympic stadium in 2012.
"2015 will be the largest sporting event (in China) after the 2008 Olympics," vice-mayor of Beijing and has the head of the committee said Liu Jingmin.
"It will be very important in promoting the sport in China," Liu said.
IAAF president Lamine Diack's called the decision a great opportunity "to help build our sport and the culture of athletics in a country of 1.6 billion dollars."
He added: "As is sometimes said, China is not a country, a continent So this is a fantastic opportunity .."
World Cup takes place every two years. Beijing has proposed the week of August 29 to September 6 for the 2015 event will be held at 80,000-seat national stadium, where Bolt of Jamaica has stunned the world in the 2008 Olympics.
The city also plans to organize international meetings in Beijing before athletics championships. Currently, Shanghai is the only Chinese city with a high-level Diamond League.
Diack told Reuters he would support the addition of Beijing on the world circuit. UK, USA and Switzerland have been two meetings of the League of diamond in their country.
In 2011 world championships will be in Daegu, South Korea. Moscow is hosting the event 2013.
