American International Group, the insurance giant bailed out by U.S. taxpayers during the credit crunch, have plunged to a loss in the third quarter of $ 2.4 billion.
It recorded losses that it has sold part of its business to repay the debt of over $ 100 000 000 000 of the bail two years ago. AIG insurance major has also had mixed results.
Loss of $ 2,400,000,000 compared to profit of $ 455m a year ago. The operating loss amounted to only $ 200 million, or $ 1.47 per share. AIG was warned in August that the sale of a majority of American General Finance would lead to a loss of $ 1.9 billion before taxes.
The company also had $ 1.3 billion collected in the Japanese life insurance payments, AIG Edison and AIG Star and Prudential Financial, very early closure next year.
AIG said that its recapitalization plan was on track. Early next year is expected to have the U.S. government about $ 100 billion, leaving the Treasury Department with a stake in the company just over 92%.
AIG's other operations are usually composed of a general insurer, charter and life insurance and U.S. retirement provider SunAmerica Financial Group.
