All-Star forward Paul Pierce was the third life Boston Celtics player to reach 20,000 career NBA points Wednesday.
Pierce, who scored 28 points in a 105-102 overtime victory against his team the Milwaukee Bucks, has spent all 13 seasons in the NBA with the Celtics. Hall of Fame players John Havlicek and Larry Bird, who also received the mark, spent his entire career with Boston.
"It was very emotional," Pierce told television reporters after crossing the bar at the free throw line and received a standing ovation from his audience.
"I had so many difficult years here. To get there, at this stage of my career, I'm just blessed and happy to still be a Celtic."
Pierce now has 20 005 points and joins three of his teammates today, the center Shaquille O'Neal, power forward Kevin Garnett and guard Ray Allen in achieving the milestone.
