A woman in California was accused of helping the Somali Islamist militant group al-Shabab, the DOJ said.Nima Yusuf Ali, 24, was arrested in San Diego and charged with conspiring to help the group.
The U.S. government lists as al-Shabab a terrorist organization. Al-Qaeda and its allies control much of Somalia south.The country has not had a functioning government since 1991.
Dr. Yusuf is the fourth person charged in last month in San Diego to help activists group.She was charged with conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists and foreign terrorist organization and making a false statement to U.S. authorities when it refused to send money to Somalia.
San Diego Three men have been indicted on similar charges earlier this month.They are accused of having worked with the head of Al-Shabab Aden Hashi ex military Moalim Ayro, and continue to raise funds and transfer money to the group, even after his death in a U.S. air strike in 2008.
It was not immediately clear whether the two sets of arrests were representatives of a group emergency linked.A African based in San Diego, which collects and sends clothes for Somalia said that Mrs Yusuf would sometimes volunteer their offices, according to AP.
Earlier this month the United States banned all cargo flights from Somalia after a plot by militants in Yemen, who hid bombs in two printers for Chicago.
