
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said that the game of the Champions League at Rangers was "perfect" match for Wayne Rooney to make his first start for the club since September 26.
Rooney was a 34-minute appearance as a substitute during United's 2-0 victory over Wigan on Saturday after missing the past eight games with an ankle proble.
It was his first outing since he announced he would be leaving Old Trafford before agreeing a new five-year contract.
Ferguson marked the return of England striker so quiet before confirming that Rooney would start against the Scottish champions Rangers, a game which combined attract only need to strengthen its position in the knock-out stages of the Champions League.
"Rooney had a good reception. It 'rewarding for him and settle down and to understand that he is the right club," Ferguson said after the victory, which saw United go level on points with Chelsea at the top of the table .
