Cricket Communications is launching a new music service to wireless clients that offers unlimited music downloads through a monthly package.
For $ 55 per month, Cricket - the low-cost carrier Leap Wireless International Inc - sells bundled voice, data and text plan, and all-you-can download music, which begins in January.
The company said the new service will offer music Muvee four major music publishers: Vivendi's Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and EMI Music.
"Muve all content will always be important that all the major labels have," said Jeff Toigo, general manager of voice and data products to cricket.
Unlike some digital music services, Muve has its roots in the mobile phone. Will be launched in the $ 199 Samsung Suede, with SanDisk flash memory card special machine. Sweden will be able to hold between 2000 and 3000 songs.
The music is stored and attached to the card can not be removed. If the customer stops paying Muve, will lose access to music.
Toigo said Muve are also available for smartphones with Google's Android software is the future.
Leap - which plans to rename itself "Cricket" - in competition with MetroPCS and Sprint-Nextel's Boost Mobile unit and is designed to pay-as-you-go market with a low average income per user.
Cricket operates in 34 U.S. states and consumers more than $ 5 million. The vast majority of customers pay cash and have an income below $ 50,000 per year. Almost half are under 35 years without a personal computer.
Toigo said Muve represents a different approach to music services like iTunes from Apple, which have their origin in the PC and require a credit card to buy music.
He declined to say how companies deploy Cricket record sales, but said that much is based on the number of subscribers.
